Iterative estimation of Sobol’ indices based on replicated designs

چکیده
In the field of sensitivity analysis, Sobol’ indices are widely used to assess importance inputs a model its output. Among methods that estimate these indices, replication procedure is noteworthy for efficient cost. A practical problem how many evaluations must be performed guarantee sufficient precision on estimates. BETTER ESTIMATION OF SMALL SOBOL’ SENSITIVITY INDICES By Art
A new method for estimating Sobol’ indices is proposed. The new method makes use of 3 independent input vectors rather than the usual 2. It attains much greater accuracy on problems where the target Sobol’ index is small, even outperforming some oracles which adjust using the true but unknown mean of the function. When the target Sobol’ index is quite large, the oracles do better than the new m...
متن کاملHigher order Sobol’ indices
Sobol’ indices measure the dependence of a high dimensional function on groups of variables defined on the unit cube [0, 1]. They are based on the ANOVA decomposition of functions, which is an L decomposition. In this paper we discuss generalizations of Sobol’ indices which yield L measures of the dependence of f on subsets of variables. Our interest is in values p > 2 because then variable imp...
متن کاملSobol’ indices and Shapley value
Let f be a finite variance function of d independent input variables. Sobol’ indices are used to measure the importance of input variables and subsets of them. They are based on a variance decomposition. A similar problem arises in economics, when the value produced through the joint efforts of a team is to be attributed to individual members of that team. The Shapley value is widely used to so...
متن کاملBias correction for the estimation of sensitivity indices based on random balance designs
This paper deals with the random balance design method (RBD) and its hybrid approach, RBD-FAST. Both these global sensitivity analysis methods originate from Fourier amplitude sensitivity test (FAST) and are consequently faced with the main problems inherent to discrete harmonic analysis. As some authors pointed out in these methods, certain estimates of sensitivity indices are systematically o...
متن کاملVariance Components and Generalized Sobol’ Indices
This paper introduces generalized Sobol’ indices, compares strategies for their estimation, and makes a systematic search for efficient estimators. Of particular interest are contrasts, sums of squares and indices of bilinear form which allow a reduced number of function evaluations compared to alternatives. The bilinear framework includes some efficient estimators from Saltelli (2002) and Maun...
